On Wednesday August 31, the organization of CHALLENGEALMERE-AMSTERDAM organized the official kick off meeting of the 2016 edition of this oldest triathlon of Europe. Top athletes from Almere were introduced besides new and familiar sponsors. Almere and Flevoland will be the center of this legendary triathlon during the weekend of 9, 10 and 11 September. In total, over 2.600 athletes will start in various races, an increase in number compared to the year before. “Yet again we will organize a spectacular event for both athletes and supporters”, says Richard Belderok, race director. “Over 600 volunteers, active on all layers of the organization, will show that Almere and Flevoland are capable of organizing such an international renowned race”.
The participants’ field has become more clear as well in the past couple of weeks. International top athletes will start Saturday September 10th. Besides the Dutch Dirk Wijnalda, Erik-Simon Strijk, Mirjam Weerd, Carla van Rooijen, Tjerk Tjallema and Youri Severin, we will also see last year’s winner Kathrin Walther and Camille Deligny, Allan Hovda, Jan Raphael, Sergio Marques and David Nasvik. Several of these pro’s were present during the kick off meeting.
Loyal and new partners
In 2016, CHALLENGEALMERE-AMSTERDAM has gained several new partners, like the new official Swim Sponsor Dare2Tri. During the kick off, several loyal partners were reintroduced: ABC Dive has been active for the triathlon since 2013 by cleaning the swim start, with their team of divers during the swim course of all races, and by hosting the meetings of the organization throughout the year. Zorggroep Almere will take care again of the medical support for athletes, and Triple F Security is in charge of safety. High5 and TSR Total Sound Reinforcement are partner as well, taking care of race nutrition and technical support for the stadium and live stream, respectively.
CHALLENGEALMERE-AMSTERDAM was also proud to announce the new partnership with CORE Nutrition Planning: all participants were offered a free personal nutrition plan, based on the race in Almere. All nutrition handed out during the race is included in this program so athletes can see what nutrition they have to get at what aid station in order for them to reach their best result.
