After a successful first edition of the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam Marathon this year – and certainly at the request of previous participants and other interested parties – the 42.2-kilometer running race will return to the race calendar of Challenge Almere-Amsterdam in 2027. The marathon will take place in the evening again, with participants running on exactly the same course as the triathlon on Saturday, September 11, 2027.
Next year, Challenge Almere-Amsterdam will also maintain a limited registration capacity: only 350 runners can participate in the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam Marathon. They will start in the evening hours again and run four laps around the Weerwater. The unique evening character and the fact that you run four times through the packed stadium on the Esplanade among the triathletes make this experience something unique. “Those were precisely the reactions we received from all participants this year. Many of them asked us to include the marathon in our race program again next year. We were very happy to listen to those voices, and so next year we will once again enjoy hundreds of runners,” said organizer Jefry Visser.
During the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam Marathon, participants run on the course of the European Championship Long Distance Triathlon of Challenge Almere-Amsterdam. And just like all triathletes, the marathon participants will also finish in the vibrant stadium on the Esplanade; a place you will pass through a few times during your marathon anyway, where thousands of spectators will cheer you on loudly.
The start is at the top of the Esplanade, opposite the former restaurant ‘De Beren’. All participants start in one wave. The start takes place at 4:45pm, making the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam Marathon a unique evening marathon that is partly run in the dark. Naturally, the course is excellently illuminated. In addition, the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam course is one of the fastest running courses in the world.
A time limit applies to the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam Marathon. The last runner of the marathon must finish by 10:45pm at the latest. This means that the last lap must be started by 9pm at the latest. There are a maximum of 350 spots available, full is full.
