Na Hawa\u00ef is de Holland Triatlon de oudste triatlon ter wereld. Almere is de thuisbasis van de Nederlandse triatlonsport, met een actieve triatlonvereniging en vele individuele atleten.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Opvallende winnaars waren pioniers als Axel Koenders en Gregor Stam, maar ook Gerrit Schellens, Frank Heldoorn, Joe Skipper en Kristian Hogenhaug. Yvonne van Vlerken, Els Visser en Chrissie Wellington stonden de afgelopen jaren op de tribune. Verschillende Europese en Wereldkampioenschappen werden in Almere gehouden. De snelste tijd bij de mannen, met een finishtijd van 7 uur, 36 minuten en 36 seconden, werd in 2023 neergezet door Menno Koolhaas. Flevoland, nog steeds omringd door water, wordt gekenmerkt door dijken, molens en eindeloze rechte polderwegen waar je je niet kunt verstoppen voor de wind! De start- en finish locatie werd verplaatst naar het stadscentrum. Het zwem-, fiets- en loopparcours start en finisht allemaal op de Esplanade \u2013 het plein langs de centrale plas, aan de rand van het gebogen oppervlak van het futuristische winkelcentrum. Nog een reden om de sfeer van Almere te proeven.
